Relay for Life is a 24 hour fundraiser presented by The American Cancer Society to aid in the fight against cancer. It is a walk-athon type event that unites friends, families, along with cancer survivors and caregivers from all over the world. Proceeds from this event go to fund research, education, services and so much more.

Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday & Sunday June 25/26 at Salt Lake Park beginning at 9:00am.

Relay for life is a community organized- family oriented event with food, live entertainment, and activities that promote cancer education. A highlight of the event is the beautiful lumenaria ceremony starting at 9pm that’s not to be missed.

Today was the official ground breaking of the new Raul R. Perez Memorial Park.

The construction site is located at the corner of Gage and Alameda in the city of Huntington Park. Previously named Westside Park, Perez Memorial Park was renamed in dedication of my father, a former Mayor of the city. The new park will have a pool, in door gym, and stadium as it is set to share facilities with a new high school currently under construction at the same site. The park and school are both scheduled to open in 2012 and will be a huge asset to the community and its citizens.

Special thanks to everyone in who worked so hard to make this event and new park possible! I’m looking forward to the Opening Ceremony.
